Roullete Basics

Roullete is a casino game that relies on chance and can be quite fun to play. However, there are some things that must be understood before playing this game. Those things include the table layout, betting rules, and the different types of bets that can be placed. Also, there are certain things that must be avoided when playing roulette, as these will lead to a loss of money.

The Roulette Wheel

In roulette, a small ball is spun around and eventually comes to rest in one of the compartments on a revolving disc-like device known as a “roulette wheel.” A typical roulette wheel has thirty-six separate pockets or compartments, painted alternately red and black (or green in American roulette), with a numbered segment of the layout (1-18) on each side of the wheel, plus a 0 and a double zero. A croupier, the dealer of roulette, spins the wheel and throws the ball. Players can still place their bets during this time, but once the croupier announces that bets are closed, players must wait as the spinning ball bounces around the wheel and finally lands in one of the pockets.

Announced Roulette Bets

Announcing bets are special betting combinations that are typically found on French roulette but can also be played in online European Roulette variants. These bets are a great way to win at roulette while reducing the amount of risk involved in each spin. However, these bets do come with a lower payout than other bets.

There are several announced bets that can be made on the roulette table, including the Douzaine, Voisins du Zero, and Tiers du Cylindre bets. The Douzaine, or dozen bet, is a wager that the winning number will be in either the first, second, or third dozens of the roulette layout. The payout for this bet is 2-1.

Voisins du Zero, or “neighbors of the zero,” is a bet that covers the numbers on either side of the zero on the roulette wheel. This is a more conservative bet, as it only covers two rows of numbers and pays out at 5-1.

Tiers du Cylindre is another bet that can be placed on the roulette table and is similar to the Voisins du Zero, but it covers a much larger area of the wheel. This bet costs 17 chips and pays out 392 chips if it wins.
